KidzWho is Urban Kidz?
You have been hearing about them in the local news, magazines, newspapers at special events and even the New York Times, so who is Urban Kidz?

Urban Kidz was born 4 years ago as the brain child of Lila Metcalf, a local mom of two, who saw a need for a children’s apparel that filled the gap between luxury boutiques and run-of-the-mall stores. “There was a missing niche of high quality, unique and trend –setting yet moderately priced clothing.” said Metcalf “and I aimed to fill that niche. She moved beyond a home-based business by launching the Urban Kidz specialty store in Scottsdale in 2005.

Where else can you find over 80 brands of clothing and accessories for boys and girls from newborn to size 14/16 and gifts to fill any child’s wish list? Urban Kidz is a one-stop shop for wardrobing valley children carrying everything from underwear to party-wear. In addition, many of the lines carried are exclusive to Urban Kidz and every week there is something new. With many special events, designer launches, Mom’s Night Out and trunk show’s, there’s certainly much happening at this valley’s favorite.

A Small business with a big heart
Metcalf’s work doesn’t just stop at the store. “I make it my mission to support various local and national charities as a small business owner and to set an example for other business to follow.” said Metcalf. “Many times businesses our size are just to small to participate in the kind of charity events large corporations can so I just create my own fundraising events and approach other small businesses in the community to participate. This gives the small businesses owner the opportunity to support our community.

So what’s next for this tireless mom-preneur and community friend?
After much success in filling the niche, Metcalf is now shooting towards a eCommerce store and then it’s on to more locations in Arizona to make Urban Kidz convenient for everyone.. “ “I will also continue to spread the word to other small businesses about getting involved in our community.” said Metcalf.
